Asteroids are a group of small Solar System bodies which revolves around the sun. 8 Flora is extremely large and lustrous asteroid located in the main belt. Its discovery was made on October 18, 1847 by prominent English astronomer John Russell Hind.

Its name was suggested by English astronomer, Sir John Frederick William Herschel. Its name Flora comes from Roman mythology. Flora was the Latin goddess of flowers and gardens.
