22 Kalliope is a massive asteroid of main belt. Its surface is made of iron–nickel metal and it is considered as the M-type asteroid. Its diameter is approximately 166 km. It has small moon called Linus which orbits around it. It was discovered by John Russell Hind, a prominent English astronomer. He made its discovery on November 16, 1852.
Its name Kalliope was based on Greek mythology. In Greek mythology Calliope was the muse of epic poetry.
